How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have more hot weather to go. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfy. Whenever possible, use other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that creates more work for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with normal, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and ensure the electric is working correctly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a deeper look to catch smaller problems before they become huge breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment. Keeping cool and comfy in your own home isn’t something you should have to worry about, and with our annual AC maintenance you don’t have to worry.
