Why you should replace your air filter this winter

Air Quality

We emphasize preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t just mean annual tune-ups – it also refers to checking your air filters. It’s an easy way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Now is the perfect time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to trigger a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that is built up on your filter can cause your whole system to work harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it reaches your home. The older a filter gets, the less capable it is in catching things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your home, which is even more critical if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them traveling in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how regularly you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Jett's Heating & Air Inc., we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the best time to exchange your air filter?
