Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We emphasize preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also refers to checking your air filters. It’s an easy way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it all yourself! This is the best time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is nearing. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Extending the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to trigger a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that gathers on your filter can force your whole system to work harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can impact your utility bills and end with an overheated system.

Improving indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it catches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your house. The older a filter gets, the less capable it is in catching things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your indoor space, which is even more critical if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With increased temperatures coming up, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t traveling in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Check your system or ask your HVAC technician for suggestions on how regularly you should be changing your filter. For many filters through Jett's Heating & Air Inc., we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter that is offered. Not sure if it’s the right time to exchange your air filter?
